Garden City, Silicon Valley of India, City of Lakes, Pub City…….if there was ever a city with too many names, Bangalore is it. Once a pensioner’s paradise because of its cool climate, it is now a youthful city, where youngsters come in search of education and jobs. With migrants from almost every part of India, how can you recognize a true Bangalorean?
1. They measure distances in minutes not kilometres
A classic example of a city that grew too fast, traffic jams are a common feature on the city’s roads. Ask a Bangalorean how far a place is, and he will describe it in time rather than distance!
2. Stray-dog bites come a close second to mosquito bites
A city of ardent animal lovers, Bangalore has over 200,000 stray dogs, so it’s not surprising that approximately 2000 stray dog bites are reported every month! However, if you ask a Bangalorean, he’ll shrug it off and say his neighbour’s bark is far worse!
3. Rendezvous at Corner House
Restaurants in the city serve a wide range of international cuisine, including desserts, yet a true Bangalorean will want to move the party to Corner House for dessert. After all, it serves the best Hot Chocolate Fudge, guru!
4. Only Coffee Shops outnumber pubs
Almost every fifth building on a busy street is a pub. Branded coffee-outlets are present at almost every 200 metres throughout the city. Yet, on weekends, it’s difficult to find a seat in either, making you wonder whether Bangaloreans live in pubs and coffee shops!
5. It is the Coolest Place
Duh!! As if there was ever a doubt about that! Bangaloreans are extremely snobbish about their weather. Don’t even think of arguing about it as you won’t ever win!
